We arrived this afternoon in Humbolt Bay, CA. Somewhat short of our original goal of San Francisco due to a pesky 40 kt gale predicted to be directly on our path to SF. More to come once Karen gets some sleep and fires up her computer.

Glad to know you all and Sockdolager wx'd the first storm! Enjoy Humboldt, ya cruisers:)
ReplyDeleteEgads, glad to hear you are out of the stormy stuff, sailors! Must have been horrendous. May it calm down for you soon.

Those of us with Dana 24's are interested in knowing how Sockdolager and crew handled the gale, what were the wind and sea conditions like, what sail configuration did you utilize to heave-to, what did you learn from the experience, what would you do differently, etc.

Karen and Jim,
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you arrived safe at Humbolt Bay.
It is a small world of Dana sailors. I just spoke to Port Townsend Sails re a back staysail that I discussed with Carol last year and she designed for me for the Dana. I am ordering it to get the Dana to heave to. I hope we can compare results.
By the way, I have an open slip in the SF Marina for a couple of weeks as the boat will not be there. You are welcome to use it if you are planning to get to SF in the next 2-3 weeks.
