RE: Willful Simplicity: Steve & Charlotte spend most of the winter anchored at San Evaristo but come in to LP occasionally for supplies. Now the fun begins! Based upon my trip in 2009 there are two rules. First, never believe what others tell you, especially visiting Americans. They are usually wrong more then right. For example, I do not know how many Americans watched as I washed-off my decks only to say the marinas charge high dollar for water. I found no marinas charging for water though they may meter it at the docks. Second, the water in the marinas is safe to drink. Remember; if in doubt ask someone who should know. The staff at the marinas can be a huge help. Oh, and get and retain receipts for any official type purchases: permits, visas, passes, documents, fines, marina fees, etc, etc.

Based upon my experience you know you have been in Cabo to long when the vendors stop inviting you into their store as you walk by. With regards to the marina at Cabo, it is loud, flashy and pricey, but it sounds like you got a good price at $40.00 per night. I believe I paid $80.00, but then I did not pay to anchor out. La Paz is great. You will want to get a National Park Permit when you get there in order to anchor at the islands. When you get there, look for "Willful Simplicity" a Catalina 27 owned by Steve and Charlotte Baker. They are good people.

Do not worry about the zarape. I never had one and never had anyone ask for it. Plus, the Mexican tend to be very accommodating and friendly towards “nice” Americans especially those attempting to speak Spanish and bearing small gifts(i.e. candy, cookies, pens, ball caps, fishing hooks, etc). They want you in Mexico as badly as you want to be there!

Good luck, and have fun. You want to spend time anchored at Bahia Frailes and Bahia De Los Muertos on your way north to La Paz.

Jay Bowden
Little Lara
Dana 306Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1274932517551878927.post-60521664204283970102011-12-17T17:25:29.459-08:002011-12-17T17:25:29.459-08:00Wow kids!
