At anchor in Bahia Santa Maria
Just outside of Magdalena Bay is a big, windswept cove at which we arrived yesterday afternoon. Sighting our friends Dennis and Marta aboard "Reunion" already at anchor (we first met them in Port Townsend,) Sockdolager came thundering into the anchorage under full sail and a foaming bow wave, passing just astern of them and then dropping anchor in what we call our Flying Downwind Moor, which is a lot of fun and a lot of bother if you don't do it right. But the hook set, followed by the sun, and after another 14-hour post-passage nap we feel great. Can't wait to post some photos and get our email, but that'll have to wait until we get to Cabo, another 160 miles. The passage from Turtle Bay was another good one, though with lots more wind and seas. For now we are enjoying this magnificent solitude at anchor in the middle of nowhere.

ReplyDeleteWe are here in La Paz, and have some pretty strong northerlys blowing...20-25 in the anchorage.
Looking forward to seeing you, if you are coming this way. We will leave here after the first of the year to go to the mainland (probably Mazatlan, or PV) where the rumors say it is warmer and less wind!
